WE’RE HERE TO GIVE ANYONE WITH AN APPETITE FOR THE SMALL AND MIGHTY, THE SLOW AND THE RARE, THE CHANCE TO DISCOVER AMAZING THINGS HAPPENING IN OUR URBAN SPACE.
We’re Claire and Olivia, Granddaughters of Tootie & Dotes. We met when we worked at the same advertising agency, making things that helped our clients sell more things. We were very busy, driven and very, very stressed out.
In Summer of 2013 we both quit. Olivia set off to deliver the miracle of life and Claire was...trying to figure out what the heck to do with hers.
A few months later, our paths crossed again when we found each other as two of just 25 students going through an Urban Farming Certification Program. It was an unexpected coincidence that led to an amazing friendship and partnership.
Tootie and Dotes were our grandmothers, two women who never met but inspired us each to embark on this path. These women are in our earliest memories of the Earth. They gardened and farmed, raised animals and children and didn’t take shit from anyone, thank you very much.
They did it because they had to. But they also did it the way they wanted to, and through their stories and the stories of today’s farms we have rediscovered our connection to the land and a greater appreciation for the essentials in life: nourishment, strength and a little love.
We’ve gone from agency refugees burned out by consumption to a passionate crew hell bent on using our powers of communication to share the stories of thriving local and unconventional growers, brewers, producers, cultivators and beekeepers who are doing all of this in our own backyard.
We will share this thriving food system's story and prove that it's possible to feed yourself all of the food groups from a small circle around the Twin Cities' metro area.
Look for tips and guidance throughout the year to learn how to grow and raise, to plant and harvest, to preserve and store the way our grandmothers did not so long ago, and to do it their way, just like Tootie and Dotes.
